Social Economic Empowerment

In 2019/2020, 20.3 percent of the population of Uganda is estimated to be poor, of whom nearly 85 percent is rural population. In other words, one in five people are living below the official national poverty line. Worth noting is that of 20.3 percent, 41.8 percent are food poor – that is unable to have a minimum income to meet the food needs. Furthermore, 29 percent of the total rural population is estimated to be poor, compared to 11.2 percent of the total urban population.

Household poverty in rural communities has negatively impacted on the girl child’s education attainment and also affected their healthcare management. There is evident vulnerability to gender-based violence and livelihood deprivation of most households among rural communities and increased cases of teenage pregnancies.

Kaleke Kasome Foundation under its program of skills empowerment and development has continued to facilitate trainings to the youths and women that can enable them become self-reliant by starting up small income generating activities.

Objective:

To improve and transform the lives of vulnerable youths and women achieve their full potential.

Action taken

Its our duty and mandate to work and witness change in our community.

Skilling youths and women in tailoring (making reusable sanitary pads and school bags)

Skilling youths and women in bakery (making bread, cakes and other confectioneries)
