Who We Are
The story and the people behind the mission in Mpigi District.
Our Story
One afternoon in 1994, the unthinkable happened to a 4-year-old girl named Sharon (not her real name) in Namuwongo, a suburb on the outskirts of Kampala. She was defiled by a 26-year-old man in her neighborhood and left for dead, lying unconscious in a pool of blood.
She was later found and successfully rehabilitated, but the memories of the incident and the aftereffects they had on her and her family left deep scars.
It is from this tragic background that the Kaleke Kasome Foundation was born in 2014. Our goal is to change mindsets and curb the sexual abuse of girls by creating awareness and finding effective, lasting solutions to end this vice. We also focus on sensitizing communities about the devastating effects of sexual assault—not only on the girl child, but on the community and the country at large.
Our Vision
A society where every child is protected, educated, and empowered to realize their full potential, free from all forms of violence and discrimination.
Our Mission
To eradicate Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and promote girl child education through advocacy, psychosocial support, skills development, and community engagement in Mpigi District.
